Obituary for Benedict L. DelBaggio Sr.


Benedict L. DelBaggio Sr., 95, of Tyrone died Monday February 6, 2017 at Tyrone Regional Health Network.

He was born January 13, 1922 in Tyrone a son of Rocco and Duna (Rich) DelBaggio. On December 31, 1949 in Tyrone he married Carmen Orwick. She died February 3, 1991.

Surviving are a daughter, Christina Charney and husband Tom of Houtzdale, two sons Leonard and wife Brenda and Patsy and wife Karen all of Tyrone, fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, a brother Rocco of Tyrone, a sister Mary of Punxsutawney, sisters-in law Marsha DelBaggio of Tyrone and Linda DelBaggio of Delmont, companion and friend Susan Wertz of Tyrone and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Benny Jr., a grandson Lucas, seven brothers Patsy, Eddie, Felix, John, George, Charles and James and a sister Nunzie.

He was yard foreman for thirteen years at Claster’s, Tyrone and was owner of DelBaggio Trucking Company until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church where he was an usher and member of the prayer group. He also was a member of the Tyrone American Legion, Tyrone Elks, Knight of Columbus and the Benedicts. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII serving as a staff sergeant in the Philipines.

He was an avid golfer and a charter member of the Sinking Valley Country Club where he was a two time club champion.

Benny was a very loving father and was kind and compassionate to those around him.

Funeral Mass will be held Friday February 10, 2017 at 12 Noon at St. Matthew Church with Fr. Clem Gardner celebrant. Friends will be received at Feller Memorial Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The Tyrone Honor Guard will accord veterans honors at the graveside..
