Obituary for Samuel D. Waite

Samuel D. Waite, 85, of Tyrone died Sunday June 4, 2017 at Elmcroft of State College.

He was born April 20, 1932 in Three Springs, a son of Harry David and Nellie Grace (McCoy) Waite. He was twice married, first to Janet A. Fuoss on April 28, 1953 in Winchester, Virginia. She died March 19, 2006. He then married Mary Ellen Grazier on May 8, 2007 in Tyrone. She preceded him in death February 14, 2013.

Surviving are two sons, William and wife Caryl of State College, Jack and wife Joan on Tecumseh. Michigan, a daughter Darlene Parham and husband Russ of Suffolk, Virginia, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 4 brothers Fred of Ft. Littleton, Richard of Three Springs, Lewis of Mt. Union and Jim of McConnelstown. He was preceded in death by a son Larry, a granddaughter Kaitlin, 2 sisters Faye Parks and Marry Hicks and 3 brothers Paul, Roy and George.

He retired in 2002 from Chicago Rivet, Tyrone as a foreman following 50 years service.

He was a U.S. Korean Conflict veteran serving as a sergeant.

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the Korean War Veterans.

Sam was active in his church , serving the youth and had been a deacon. He was instrumental in building the old church on Columbia Ave., Tyrone. Visiting the elderly was his passion and joy.

Funeral services will be held Friday June 9, 2017 at 11 A.M. at Grace Baptist Church, Tyrone with Rev. Roy Garthwaite officiating. Interment will follow at Charlottesville Cemetery. Friends will be received at Feller Memorial Home on Thursday from 2 to4 and 6 to 8 P.M. and at the church on Friday from 10 A.M. until the time of services.
