Obituary for Francis E. Ivie

Francis E. Ivie, 96, of Spruce Creek died Tuesday September 2, 2014 at Epworth Manor.

He was born May 24, 1918 in Washington, D.C., a son of Curtis B. and Virginia Ellen (Shannon) Ivie. On June 7, 1948 in Chicago he married Myrtle “Swanee” Swanson. She died January 11, 2010.

Surviving are 2 sons, Kert F. and wife Mary of Spruce Creek, Kraig S. and wife Katherine of Vicksburg, Michigan, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers Owen H. of Ft. Worth, Texas and Merle D. of Granberry, Texas. He was preceded in death by a 2 brothers Curtis Jr. and Marvin O. and a sister Geraldine Virginia Audish.

He was a member of the Church of Christ, Altoona and was past president of the Holton Teacher’s Association

He was an Air Force veteran of WWII and the Korean War serving as a Master Sergeant retiring in 1962 after 22 years service . He graduated in 1964 from Western Michigan University with a BS degree in Education and received his teacher certificate.
Mr. Ivie retired in 1981 from Holton High School, Michigan as a social studies teacher following 16 years service.

Frank was an avid golfer and coin collector. He has been a resident of Epworth Manor Assisted Living for the past 4 years and he has garnered many friends among the residents and staff. He was a devoted follower of Christ serving as an elder in Muskegon, Michigan for many years.

A joyous Memorial Service will be held Saturday September 6, 2014 at 6 P.M. at the Church of Christ, 514 S. 7th St., Altoona. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
