Robert L.  Gillam


Robert Laverne “Snook” Gillam, 87, of Tyrone died Monday March 9, 2015 at Tyrone Hospital.

He was born March 17, 1927 in Williamsport, a son of Maude Rebecca (Waite) Gillam. On June 28, 1952 at the First English Lutheran Church, Tyrone he married Adleen T. Gates.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, 2 brothers Melvin D. and wife Mildred of Georgetown, Delaware, Kenneth E. and wife Sharon of Reedsville and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister Beverly J. Ortz, an infant sister Donna Jean and a special friend John Bailey.

Mr. Gillam retired in 1989 from Sylvania Electric, Altoona as an electrician following 25 years service. He had previously worked at Shope’s Garage, Tyrone, Dalhimer’s Garage Tyrone and owned and operated a service station, Atlantic Gas Station, on 10th Street in Tyrone.

He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, Tyrone, Tyrone Elks, Anderson-Denny VFW and the Howard Gardner American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII with service in Germany.

Bob and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending time at their home in James Creek. They loved boating at Raystown and loved pulling water skiers around the lake with their boat

Funeral services will be held Friday March 13, 2015 at 11 A.M. at Feller Memorial Home with Pastor Sharon Erb officiating. Interment will follow at Burket Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 9 P.M.
