Obituary for Edward C. Johnson Jr.

Mr. Edward (Ed) Clarence Johnson Jr., passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2017at his home in High Point, NC.

A lifelong bachelor, Ed was born April 16, 1935, in Tyrone Pennsylvania. He was the youngest son of the late Viola Franz and Clarence Edward Johnson Sr. He was preceded in death by siblings Marguerite Vick and husband Frank, Melvin Johnson and nephew Frankie Vick.

Ed is survived by his sister Marjorie Landis and husband Theodore, sister-in-law, Violet Johnson, nieces Lucille Gibson (Jim), Sharon Butler (Bill), Janet Busler (Dean), nephew Ted Landis (Sally), grand nieces, nephews, and their children.

Ed grew up in Tyrone PA, graduating from Tyrone High School where he was a lettered member of the marching band. In later years, Ed proudly donated his trombone to the Salvation Army Brass Band. He was a member of the Good Shepard Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Medical Corp. While stationed in France, Ed was an ambulance driver and mechanic.

Following a career with IBM of 38 years, Ed retired to High Point, NC. Upon arriving in High Point, he became known as everybody’s “Uncle Eddie.”

Uncle Eddie’s interests included collecting unique clocks and watches, antique glassware, playing golf, and rooting for the UNC Tarheels and Carolina Panthers.

The family would like to thank Uncle Eddie’s caregivers. Not only for their devotion in caring for Uncle Eddie but for the love they extended to him throughout his struggle with Parkinson’s.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 21, 2017, at two o’clock at Wright Funeral Service, 1726 Westchester Dr., High Point. Uncle Eddie’s interment will be held Saturday, May 27 at three o’clock at Grandview Cemetery in Tyrone, Pennsylvania. There he will be placed next to his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army of High Point, 301 West Green Drive, High Point, North Carolina, 27260.
