Obituary for Eugene I. Fye

Eugene I. Fye, 87, of Port Matilda died May 31, 2017 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center.

He was born November 8, 1929 in Marsh Creek, a son of Orin and Sara (Ritz) Fye. On May 5, 1973 in Bellefonte he married Betty L. Goss.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter Danielle Bandel and husband Terry of Spring Mills, a grandson Jonah, and three brothers, John of Port Orange, Florida, Bill of Warriors Mark, and George of Vero Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by a brother Harry and a sister Mary Jane Grimm.

Mr. Fye retired in 2003 from the maintenance department of Toftrees Apartments, State College after many years service.

He was a U.S. army veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as a Corporal. He was a member of the Beech Creek American Legion and attended Hannah United Methodist Church.

Gene was well known in the area in his earlier days playing the pedal steel guitar with various bands at carnivals and fairs throughout the region. Before his tour of duty in Korea he had been in a band working for the legendary Hank Williams in Louisiana.

Funeral services will be held Saturday June 3, 2017 at 2 P.M. at Feller Memorial Home with Pastor Sam Reese officiating. Interment with veteran’s honors by the Port Matilda American Legion will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Port Matilda. Friends will be received at the funeral home of Saturday from 12 noon until the time of services.
