Mary Beth Banks, 67, Altoona, died Saturday at UPMC Presbyterian Pittsburgh.
She was born in Tyrone, daughter of James and Mary Agnes (Grieble) Gillam. On Aug. 17, 1974 she married Howard L. Banks at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Jamie (Robbie) Banks of Altoona; two sons: Todd (Amy) of Hollidaysburg, and Eric (Kara) of Altoona; four grandchildren: Drew, Josh, Allie and Nora; and three sisters: Roberta Woomer of Tyrone, Patrice DelBaggio of Tyrone and Sue Evans of Pittsburgh.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James; and a sister, Kathleen.
Mary Beth was a 1968 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and a 1972 graduate of Lock Haven University with a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. She retired in 2013 from Bellwood-Antis Elementary School as a teacher after 30 years service.
She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and her many friends. She enjoyed going on vacations to Emerald Isle, N.C. and Disney World, and created many lifelong memories that will forever be cherished by her family.
She truly impacted all of those she came in contact with and will forever be remembered for her charm, sense of humor and beautiful smile. She spent much of her retirement volunteering at Bellwood Elementary School and enjoyed her time with her fellow teachers. Marybeth was dedicated to her church, St. Marks Catholic Church, Altoona, and she was loved by her many friends and will be forever missed and remembered.


Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Thursday, April 19, 2018, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, Father Jozef Kovacik celebrant. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
