Obituary for Edward Jackson Sleeth

Edward "Jackson" Sleeth, 87, of Madison Ave., Tyrone went to be with the Lord January 30, 2019 at UPMC Altoona.

He was born October 12, 1931 in Weston, West Virginia, a son of Bhurl C. and Ruby L. Sleeth. October 21, 1961 he married Lois Stonebraker (Boots).

He is survived by his wife, son Timothy S. Sleeth (Ruth) of Hollidaysburg, five grandchildren, Michael, Elijah, Sarah, Rachel and Aaron Sleeth. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph C. Sleeth of California.

Jack attended and graduated from Tyrone Area High School, Class of 1950. He was a sergeant in the 101st Airborne and fought in the Korean War. He received a Korean War Medal with one Bronze Star.

He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, a member of the Tyrone Area Korean War Vets Assoc., a lifetime associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 51. He participated in local parades with his Jeep and his truck. He was also a member of the Tyrone American Legion. He enjoyed working on cars and many people in town would have him fix their cars. He enjoyed hunting rattlesnakes. He was also a very competitive volleyball player. He enjoyed being with grandchildren, family and friends.

He retired from Corning Glassworks. Also he was the owner of Sleeths Sunoco Service, Tyrone and Sleeths Mobil Service, State College.

Arrangements are by the Feller Memorial Home. Funeral services are private, with Tina Hawkins officiating. Interment will be in Bald Eagle Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church or Shriners Children's Hospital.
