Obituary for Gloria Jean Hooper (Wolfe)

Gloria Jean Hooper, 88, of Tyrone died Tuesday Tuesday April 23, 2019 at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg.

She was born September 5, 1930 in Tyrone, a daughter of Samuel Albert and Dorothy (Ammerman) Wolfe. She was married to LaVerne Hooper in July 1955 and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters; Diane Waters and husband Edwin of Orange Park, Florida, Linda Snider and husband Mort of Port Matilda, five grandchildren; Joshua Waters, Lauren Ferrell, Bree Fogleman, Kristen Johnston and Andrea Gurekovich, six great-grandchildren; Maggie, Lili, Nina, Maverick, Madalin and Jacob and a sister, Suzanne Larson of Canton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by a grandson Matthew Waters.

Mrs. Hooper retired in 1995 from the office of Dr. Daniel Friday as Registered Nurse following 26 years service. She had also been employed as operating room nurse at J.C. Blair Hospital, Huntingdon.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Tyrone where she belonged to the Vestry and the Apple Dumpling Gang. She was also a member of the Tyrone Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and the Altoona Housing Authority.

She was a 1948 graduate of Tyrone High School and a 1951 graduate of Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing, Philiadelphia with a Registered Nurse degree.

Gloria enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, knitting and going to the beach with her family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday April 27, 2019 at 11 A.M. at Trinity Episcopal Church with Deacon Jack Hoffer officiating. Interment will follow at Huntingdon Memorial Gardens. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the services.
