Obituary for Christopher S. Gurekovich
Christopher S. Gurekovich, 59, of Tyrone died Monday July 29, 2019 at Epworth Manor, Tyrone.
He was born August 11, 1959 in Tyrone, a son of the late Francis Sr. and Gail (Miller) Gurekovich. On December 20, 1997 in Altoona he married Jana L. Wesoloski.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters Heather Lynn Eyer (Joseph) of Warriors Mark, Amber Brooke Shank (Vincent) of Bellwood, five grandchildren; Xander, Vincent Jr. and Paige Shank, Caylor and Gannon Eyer, two sisters; Patty Yost (Joseph) of Bedford, Karen Gurekovich (Tim Proctor) of Bellwood and three brothers; Michael E. (Christine), Francis Jr. (Darcy) and Karl (Kimberly) all of Tyrone. He was preceded in death by a sister Mary Alice.
Mr. Gurekovich retired on disability in 2005 from HealthSouth Nittany Valley as a purchasing agent following ten years service. He was previously employed as a CNA at Garvey Manor.
He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church where he taught Religious Education for many years. He was an active 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Gregory Council. He was a 1977 graduate of Tyrone Area High School and had attended a seminary school in Kentucky out of high school to become a priest.
Chris was an avid Tyrone High School football fan and enjoyed his grandchildren, his dogs and Christmas decorating.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday August 2, 2019 at 11 A.M. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Friends will be received at Feller Memorial Home on Thursday from 6 to 8 P.M.
The family would like to thank the nurses on the Second Floor at Epworth Manor and to Grane Hospice for their excellent care given to Chris.
