Obituary for Robert J. Tennis Sr.

Robert J. Tennis Sr., 98, of Tyrone died Friday July 3, 2020 at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.

He was born April 11, 1922 in Spruce Creek, a son of John and Roxie (Rossman) Tennis. In 1942 in Cumberland, Maryland he married Christine P. Cowher. She died September 25, 2016.

Surviving are two daughters; Donna L. Sellers and husband Robert of Bellemeade, Carole J. Golden of Tyrone, a son, Robert J. Jr. and wife Vickie of Tyrone, nine grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers; Carl, Ray and Harold Tennis and a sister Brenemart Tennis.

He was a member of the Hookies Fire Company, Tyrone, Anderson-Denny VFW and the Howard Gardner American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII serving as a Sergeant. He was proud to have been the Grand Marshall of the 2017 Tyrone Memorial Day Parade.


Mr. Tennis retired in 1984 from the beater room at Westvaco, Tyrone following 42 years service.

Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved socializing at the Hookies and Legion. He enjoyed trips to the Rocky Gap Casino, Cumberland, Maryland.

Private services and burial will be held.
