Obituary for John M. Franchio Jr.

John M. Franchio Jr. 94, of Tyrone died Friday November 20, 2020 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.

He was born May 31, 1926 in Tyrone, a son of John Sr. and May Rose (Guido) Franchio. He had been previously married to Louise Mignogna who survives in California and to Bonnie Grazier who preceded him in death.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Linda Scafuro and husband Carl of Cleveland Ohio, Debbie Franchio of California, Robyn Ashby and husband Jim of Tennessee, 2 sons; Stephen Franchio of New Jersey, David Franchio and wife Jeannette of Massachusetts, 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Kathleen Parmelee of Valdosta Georgia, Virginia Rose Lamanteer and husband Anthony of New Jersey and a brother James and wife Linda of Tyrone . He was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Mary Itinger, Louise Sweitzer and Irene Rupert and 6 brothers; Michael, Joseph, Albert, Peter, Gene and Richard and longtime friend who he lived with for 40 years Katie Parks Boughamer.

He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.

He retired in 1989 from Conrail as a painter following 30 years service. Along with his brother-in-law Harold Sweitzer, he was the original owner of East End Pizza, Tyrone in 1956.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII serving as a Navy Seaman First Class as a cook.

John was an avid golfer and enjoyed horse racing, bingo and tinkering around his yard.

Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday November 24, 2020 at 11 A.M. at St. Matthew Catholic Church with Fr. Jozef Kovacik Celebrant. Interment will follow at Blair Memorial Park. There will be no viewing or visitation.
