Obituary for G. Joan Shawley

G. Joan Shawley, 84, of Claysburg formerly of Tipton died January 9, 2021 at UPMC Altoona.

She was born March 25, 1936 in Bellwood, a daughter of Oscar Wray and Gertrude (Young) Beichler. She was married to James G. Shawley on October 1, 1954 in Winchester, Virginia. He died June 25, 1997.

Surviving are three sons; James G. Jr. and wife Debra of Tyrone, Leslie K. Of Tyrone, Kerry W. and wife Michele of Huntingdon, three daughters; Robin J. Boyer and husband Larry of Claysburg, Nancy C. Cherry of Greenbrier, Tennesse, Marcia L. Seguin and husband Bruce of Parrish, Florida, eighteen grandchildren, thirty nine great-grandchildren and a brother Robert W. Beichler and wife Carol of Bellwood. She was preceded in death by a sister Judith A. Datres.

She was a member of the Tipton Baptist where she had been past treasurer and member of the Ladies Guild. She was a 1954 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School

She retired in 2001 from AASR Valley of Altoona serving as secretary for 19 years.

Joan enjoyed gardening, embroidering, cooking, fishing, camping, traveling , making peanut butter fudge and family get togethers.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
