Obituary for Joseph J. Scordo

Joseph J. Scordo, 91, of Tyrone died Sunday March 7, 2021 at his residence.

He was born January 3, 1930 in Tyrone a son of Antonio and Sunda (Sylvestri) Scordo. On November 23, 1957 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone he married Susan Shultz.

Surviving are his wife, 3 daughters; Joey Sue Zimmerman and husband Bill of Tyrone, Sunda Baney and husband Gary of Warriors Mark,, Toni Walls and husband Ronald of Philipsburg, 3 grandchildren William Zimmerman, Suzanne Dreibelis and Danielle Barto, 3 great-grandchildren; Lucas Dreibelis, Lydia Barto and Cora Fairish and a brother Dominic Scordo of Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by 4 sisters; Jennie Mayes, Nancy Risoldi, Josephine Maisano and Mary Ieraci and 3 brothers; Samuel, James and Antonio Scordo.

Joe retired in 1992 from Chicago Rivet, Tyrone as a machinist following 39 years service.

He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Hookies Fire Company, Tyrone Elks, Howard Gardner American Legion, Anderson-Denny VFW and the Bald Eagle Grange.

Joe was a PIAA football referee for 50 years, He helped start and was very involved in the Tyrone Youth Football League. He was a U.S. Korean War combat veteran serving as a Corporal.

Joe enjoyed spending time with family and his wife, gardening, Penn State football, home renovations, family gatherings and was an avid golfer.

Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday March 10, 2021 at 11 A.M. at St. Matthew Church with Fr. Jozef Kovacik Celebrant. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
