What Bea meant to me.

I was just thinking about some past events and even though I probably said this before, it bears repeating. If I were to pick a step-mom, I couldn’t have picked a better one than you. You always treated me, my brother and sisters like one of your own. When we were younger and through the years into adulthood, you gave your time and energy and made us feel at home when we visited, wherever home happened to be for you and Dad. You were kind and interested in me and my wife Caroline when we visited and when we were away. Once we had children, you were Grandma Bea to them and always will be. Although we may not have always let you know, we really appreciated your remembering our children’s birthdays and providing them gifts at Christmas as well. Those acts of kindness will always be remembered. You even remembered me and Carol’s anniversary when we didn’t. We really appreciated the cards and letters you’ve sent, especially the ones where you included pictures. This went a long way to keep us up to date with what was going on with you and Dad over the years.

You were a Wizard at remembering all the important dates; birthdays etc. and I think Dad would have been hard pressed to do that. I’m sure that it was you that encouraged him to do the right things regarding his children and his responsibilities. For that, I thank you so very much.

And let’s not forget the fabulous meals you prepared over the years. Everything was perfect every time! We always left the table fat and happy. The meals were delicious from first bite to the last with no room for desert. From the first cut during preparation to the last washed dish being put away, you always made it look so easy. Simply amazing! Also, I remember you as one of the most patient people I’ve known. You really had to be to put up with Dad.

Looking back, we should have done more in the way of reciprocating the communication. There’s no way to fully express the gratitude I feel when thinking of you. Thank you for your attention, advice, love and care. These words were few and should have been spoken more often and I just wanted to let you know that you are a very important and special person in not only my life but that of my family’s and forever will be. God bless you.

Alan.
